The Best Months for Adsense

We were looking at the data inside Karat Insights and wanted to see if there were any patterns around YouTube Adsense. (btw, Karat Insights is completely free if you want to check it out.)

We found that the highest months for Adsense earnings start to rise around September/October, peak in December, remain pretty high in January, then start to decline in February.

This makes sense. With all of the fall and winter holidays, there tends to be a pretty big push on advertising around this time.

What’s interesting though is how creators’ other income peaks during some of the lowest Adsense months.

According to our data, their other income consists of e-commerce, brand deals, and community payments. Let’s dig into what that looks like.

What Successful Creators Do to Supplement Their Income

During these low Adsense months, creators are supplementing their income with 3 things.

E-Commerce: Digital products, affiliate marketing, physical goods, and merch.

While Adsense provides a powerful stream of income, supplementing with your own products and monetizing via affiliate links is the move. If you don’t already have a solid product and funnel to drive sales, this is your sign to start working on it.

Brand Deals: This one’s pretty straightforward. It’s also quite surprising.

It quite known by creators that the end of the year tends to be big for brand deals. Brands are getting in their final campaigns, using up that marketing budget, and wanting to promote their products during holiday sales.

We’ve heard time and time again that Q1 tends to be less demanding for creators on the brand deal front. Yet our data shows that this might not be true. Unless creators are getting paid out during February and March for campaigns in the fall, but that would be quite the payment terms. 😬

Community: This includes income from courses (whether sold via their own website or a course hosting platform like Udemy), having a tour, a newsletter, or community event.

This category is broad, but that’s kind of the beauty of it. If your content is centered around beauty tips, maybe a tour doesn’t make sense for you. But what about a newsletter? A weekly roundup of the trending products, your thoughts on ‘em, and affiliate links to ‘em? Why not?

Or maybe your content is focused on gaming. Why not host a virtual or in person event, bringing your community together?

Think outside the box here. You’d be surprised just how much you can make with some of these more unique income streams.

Dude Perfect Scores $100M Growth Deal

Dude Perfect, comprised of YouTubers Tyler Toney, Cody Jones, Garrett Hilbert, and twins Coby and Cory Cotton, recently secured a significant investment from the private firm Highmount Capital. While the exact amount of the investment wasn’t disclosed, it is estimated to be between $100 million and $300 million, marking a substantial milestone for the 60 million subscriber based channel.

The investment hopes to support the guys as they explore opportunities to expand the Dude Perfect brand beyond viral outreach. Plans are already underway in Frisco, Texas, to build a new headquarters and replace their existing 20,000 square foot facility. Other ventures in the pipeline include a multi city tour, a streaming app, and the development of a Dude Perfect theme park.

📸 TikTok’s newest platform to be Instagram’s biggest threat.

We’ve seen a couple stories in the past week about a TikTok scam going around. Creators have received an email that looks scarily legit claiming they’re eligible for a blue check on their profile.

This is a reminder to be careful. When in doubt, don’t click anything in the email or respond to it.

See ya next week,
