Isaiah Photo's Storytelling Framework (10M+ Subscribers)

+ the Mormon moms taking over the FYP, TikTok ban update, and more

Hey.

There’s a lot of noise around what makes good content. One unarguable key? The ability to tell a good story.

We brought Isaiah (aka Isaiah Photo) into our Discord Community to chat all things storytelling, succeeding on Shorts, and how he grew his channel to over 10M subscribers.

In today’s newsletter, we’re sharing some of the takeaways from the conversation, along with our thoughts on a few other bits of creator news.

Isaiah Photo’s Tips for Storytelling

One of the hallmarks of a successful creator is their ability to tell a good story. We brought Isaiah Photo into our Discord Community to share his formula for storytelling—one that’s helped him grow his channel to over 10M subscribers.

our team with Isaiah :)

Here are a few of our favorite takeaways from the conversation:

  • His breakthrough with content came when he jumped on YouTube Shorts (before it became popular) and produced 5-7 Shorts per day.

  • Now, he finds that posting 1 high-quality Short per day works best.

  • A combo of a visual and audible hook is key, since short-form content doesn’t have thumbnails the same way long-form YouTube videos do.

  • He approaches his content with a few goals in mind, but he doesn’t script them. He said it’s better to just let things happen.

MomTok Takes Reality TV

ICYMI, a group of eight Mormon creators, who called themselves #MomTok, have taken over the FYP following the release of their new reality TV series—The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

Now we’re not here to critique the show (although we’re a few episodes in and it sure is juicy). But it makes us wonder—will the creator to reality TV pipeline become more popular?

Promotion of the show began right around the same time as the D’Amelio Show came to a close—a Hulu series featuring Charli and Dixie D’Amelio. And fans have loved it.

Plus, it’s led to a ton of promotion of the show. These creators already have platforms pre-show, creating an almost guaranteed viewership.

Will creators start to dominate reality TV? Tough to say. But it is an interesting opportunity for creators and streaming services.

TikTok’s Newest Feature

TikTok just released a new feature that allows you to edit captions after the video’s been posted. They’ve also added a “delete and re-edit” option, allowing you to pull a posted video back into drafts to make additional edits.

This feature is long overdue. Unfortunately, it seems to be in beta as we haven’t gotten access just yet. To see if you have access, update your TikTok app.
